A wonderfully unusual and versatile antique mixed link chain crafted from an eclectic combination of paperclip, oval, flat bar and knot links in warm-toned high carat gold and platinum. The contrasting link styles create an effortlessly layered look whilst remaining beautifully refined and wearable.
One side features elongated paperclip and oval links in 18ct gold and platinum (XRF tested), likely of British origin, whilst the opposing side is composed of flat bar links interspersed with knot links. The flat bar links test as approximately 15.8–16.06ct gold on an XRF analyser, with the knot links showing an intriguing mix of platinum, silver, palladium and traces of gold. The unusual alloy composition and warm colouring may suggest Austro-Hungarian or Russian influence for this section of the chain, both known for their distinctive mixed metal jewellery during the late 19th to early 20th century.
The chain displays a rich, warm gold colour that contrasts beautifully with the silvery platinum sections, with the knot links appearing ever so slightly darker than the other platinum elements due to natural patina in the crevices of the knots, adding wonderful depth and antique character.
Finished with a bolt ring and swivel dog clip, and paired with a removable antique T-bar pendant originating from the original paperclip and oval link dress watch chain, it is an exceptionally versatile piece that styles beautifully worn long, layered, or doubled with an extender.
