One of those wonderfully clever pieces of antique jewellery hardware that feels every bit as useful today as it would have been over a century ago.
 
Dating to the late Victorian era, circa 1880-1900, this beautiful antique shepherd’s hook is crafted in high-carat yellow gold, professionally testing at approximately 18ct. The hook is topped with an ornate, softly sculpted fitting decorated with delicate foliate detailing, while a tiny twisted gold chain sweeps alongside the hook - a particularly lovely little detail that elevates this from a purely functional fitting into a jewel in its own right.
 
Shepherd’s hooks like this were traditionally associated with Victorian watch and guard chains.
